Azure seas, grand monuments, fascinating people,
exotic cultures, and far away places. The world is wide and we LOVE to TRAVEL. Michael and Belinda Adkins have been traveling the world for many years,
and love to share our experiences and photographs. As we travel, we are not tourists, but visitors, respectful of other cultures and ways.
This site is designed to share some of the wonderful places around the world we have explored and hopefully interest others in visiting some of
these "far places" for themselves. We will continuously be adding new places which we have visited. Exotic islands, like Bora Bora and Isle des Saintes,
ancient cities such as Kyoto and Dubrovnik, or natural wonders such as Colca Canyon or the Ngorogoro Crater. Included in each of these "places" is a
short description of our trip along with some of the photos we have taken. Also, we include a special photo exhibition of our pictures which will
change from time to time. Hopefully it will spur you on to travel and experience the beautiful places and wonderful people who live in our wide world.
Stop by and visit us from time to time and share with us our travels at farplaces.org.
Bonaire (Jan 2012) - For our winter get away in 2012,
we chose the island of Bonaire. A Dutch island, situated just north of
Venezuela, Bonaire is considered one of the best shore diving areas in the world. Even though Belinda is not a diver, we stayed at
Buddy Dive Resort. A nice resort just north of the capital it not only offers very complete dive facilities (tanks are available 24 hours a day)
but you also get a truck for your personal use throughout your stay!!! At first, Michael was hesitant to stay here since Belinda is not a diver,
but with everyone off diving she was able to get her pick of beach chairs under an umbrella to get some much needed Rest and Relaxation! During our stay,
we met another couple, Fran and Linda Marcoux. He dives, she doesn't. We actually met them on the plane down to Bonaire, and can you believe it,
they were not only staying at the same resort, their room was right next door. Michael and Fran dove, dove, dove, and Belinda and Linda relaxed.
We explored the desert island, which I am sure has far more cacti than trees, but is is very clean and has a very distinct Dutch flavor.
We had a great time and will definately be back, which is unusual for us (too many places to visit). Oh, did we mention that with the room
you get a truck!
From time to time, we enjoy putting together small, thematic photo essays based on a particular subject matter. Here are the latest. Please let us know what you think of the photos.
